Additional Opportunities

We are fortunate to have many resources to develop your particular interests. Fellows may join the Sport Medicine physicians for additional exposure to musculoskeletal ultrasound in the sports medicine clinic. Transesophageal echocardiography training and education is available through our critical care ultrasound colleagues. Multiple global health ultrasound opportunities exist (once allowable with Covid-19) including a well-developed relationship with the non-profit organization Global Emergency Care in which fellows could travel to Uganda to teach ultrasound. Fellows are able to work with AirCare (helicopter transport system) to develop the flight medicine ultrasound program. Customization of your fellowship experience is possible and strongly encouraged.

Educational Experience

We are very proud of the educational experience that we offer with fellow didactics presented weekly based best practices for ultrasound fellowship curricula and updated regularly. Weekly we review landmark and new papers as a group. Our structured and curated quality assurance review is high yield and intriguing every week.

Image Review

We use QpathE for image review, archive, quality assurance, teaching, billing, and credentialing. In the Emergency Department, we use an unsolicited orders workflow (that means no orders, just scan!) to initiate studies on the ultrasound system. We have a workflow that allows us to complete worksheets at the time of the exam on the ultrasound system for ease and efficiency. From here, images and reports transfer to Qpath and the EHR. It is an advanced workflow that allows great compliance and documentation.

At weekly ultrasound QA sessions, we review ultrasound examinations over the prior week that had notable findings and teaching points. Quality assurance of ultrasound examinations performed in the emergency department is performed on a routine basis and can be done from your laptop.
