The University of Maryland Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to offer a one-year fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound with emphasis on development of the medical educator.
UMMC is a tertiary academic center with access to nearby academic affiliated hospitals.

Ultrasound Fellowship Education
Education Experience
The fellow will have a flipped classroom experience with weekly assigned readings. The fellow will meet weekly with the ultrasound faculty to review cases, journal articles and simulation. We have both static and live simulators and access to cadaver lab. The fellow attends the ACEP ultrasound management course and has the opportunity to attend other national conferences. Video review of images are performed weekly, faculty scanning shifts.
Teaching Experience
Teaching is an important aspect of our ultrasound fellowship. We have opportunity to teach at various education levels. This includes pre-clinical medical student courses, medical student ultrasound rotations, resident ultrasound rotations and experiences, local conferences for practicing physicians and mid level providers.
Throughout the year fellows will increase their lecturing skills with speaking opportunities at grand rounds and local conferences.
Research Experience
Each fellow is required to develop a research project and submit an IRB. The fellow will also have the opportunity to work on research projects on going in the department. The fellow will have access to research support and education through the department and University of Maryland.
Clinical Experience
The fellow will hold faculty appointment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with clinical shifts at an academic affiliated hospital. The fellow is responsible for 18 clinical hours per week.
