Ultrasound Fellowship Education
Our fellowship is ideal for motivated individuals who wish to distinguish themselves as leaders in emergency ultrasound.
• Our fellow will function as the Ultrasound Service Chief in a smaller community hospital outside of Ann Arbor.
• With guidance from the fellowship director and ultrasound faculty, our fellow will develop real time administrative experience in running the community hospital ultrasound program including:
o physician credentialing
o quality assurance
o ultrasound directed protocols
o equipment and software maintenance and purchasing
o serving as the bedside ultrasound liaison for the entire community hospital system
• Instead of merely learning the above skills, our fellow will be performing them and creating a robust, practical and financially viable model for the community hospital emergency department that can be mimicked in other academic or community settings.
• Our fellow will graduate with the tools and skill set to practically implement bedside ultrasound in a variety of clinical, analytical and business applications including but not limited to
o small and large community emergency departments
o out-patient clinics
o virtual quality assurance programs
o large academic centers
o entrepreneurial ultrasound applications
• Our fellow will be involved in leadership and advocacy of bedside ultrasound on both a state level through Detroit Area Ultrasound Society, MCEP (Michigan College of Emergency Physicans) and nationally through ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians)
• Our fellowship will provide comprehensive ultrasound education with opportunities including supervision of the ultrasound education for medical students as well as residents in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital/University of Michigan Emergency Medicine Residency.
o Dedicated scanning shifts with junior residents
o Facilitating resident educational lectures and QA
o Facilitating off-service resident ultrasound elective curriculum and hands on scanning in the emergency department
• Our fellow will be involved in various research endeavors through our robust research support at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and ongoing ultrasound research collaborations with different departments and outside institutions.
