Type of Program
Allegheny General Hospital is the primary teaching hospital of the Allegheny Health Network (AHN), and is a 576 bed, Level I trauma center with approximately 56,000 ED patients per year. It serves as the primary teaching site for the AGH Emergency Medicine residency. The residency is affiliated with Drexel University School of Medicine and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and serves as a clinical teaching campus for third and fourth students.

Emergency Ultrasound is a Division of the Department of Emergency Medicine at AGH. Dr. Thomas Campbell is the System Chair of Emergency Medicine for the Allegheny Health Network and Dr. Dennis Hanlon is the Director of the Department of EM at AGH.

Ultrasound Fellowship Education
The Key components of our EUS fellowship include:
• Core and Advanced EUS Scanning Technique
• Quality Assurance
• Program Development and Management
• Resident / Medical Student Education
• Research
The majority of hands-on learning of scanning techniques and protocols will take place within the department of emergency medicine during dedicated "scan shifts". Program administration skills will be taught through the participation of the fellow in all administrative activities performed by the EUS fellowship director / EUS division director. Academic skills will be taught by focusing on two main components: 1) Teaching; and 2) Scientific investigation. The development of these skills will allow the graduated fellow to be a leader not only in their department and hospital, but also nationally within the emergency medicine community. Assessment of the fellow’s progress toward successfully completing the program will occur on a continuous basis throughout the fellowship year.
Do you bill for ultrasounds?
Yes. All clinically indicated emergency ultrasounds are billed as emergency procedures by the Dept. of Emergency. Medicine
Do you require follow up imaging for patients who get ultrasounds?
