Additional Opportunities
Significant teaching opportunities are present at the medical school where UCI has an integrated 4-year vertical bedside ultrasound curriculum. Ultrasound is taught during anatomy, physiology, clinical pathology, and an ongoing course during the first two years called "Clinical Foundations". Students have access to ultrasound machines during their 3rd year clerkships in medicine, family medicine, and surgery rotations.
Educational Experience
You will digitally record all your scans and review all of them with the fellowship director. You are expected to scan at least 1000 patients for the year and this usually requires coming in on your days off to keep your numbers up. Significant lecturing opportunities exist for you to develop your speaking style and hands-on teaching ability.
Image Review
Only videos are reviewed - no still images. While this is more labor intensive than still image review (minimum 4 hours per week), we feel it increases opportunities for learning and significantly increases time spent with the fellowship director.
Deadline for Fellowship Application
Variable, but most interviews are completed by October
