Jacobi Medical Center

NYC Health+Hospitals | Jacobi is one of 11 acute care hospitals in New York City's public hospital system and is the largest public hospital facility in the Bronx. It serves as a major academic affiliate and teaching site of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Established in 1975, the Emergency Medicine residency program is the first in New York and one of the oldest in the country. The hospital supports residency-training programs in all specialties and subspecialties. Jacobi, as an urban trauma center and municipal hospital, provides fellows with a distinctive county hospital experience. It is a 911-receiving hospital and an ACS Designated Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. It is the only Burn Unit in the Bronx and the second largest in New York City. It also serves as the Regional Hyperbaric Center and Regional Snakebite Center for the Tri-state area.

The Adult Emergency Department delivers care to approximately 75,000 patients each year. The Pediatric Emergency Department manages nearly 40,000 patients annually, is supervised by Pediatric and Emergency Medicine faculty, and supports a fellowship training program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The Adult Emergency Department houses 32 beds all fully equipped for critical care in addition to three dedicated resuscitation suites, one orthopedic room, and one asthma room. The Urgent Care / Fast Track Area consists of 13 additional rooms that are contiguous with the main ED. The Pediatric Emergency Department area includes 9 Pediatric regular patient care spaces, 2 resuscitation suites, and a spacious pediatric asthma area.

The Emergency Department at Jacobi has full departmental status within the medical center and all of the faculty have appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Fellows will complete a year-long curriculum based on ACEP recommendations to achieve mastery in point-of-care ultrasound. The focus is on hands-on scanning in the active clinical environment, but the program includes a robust simulation experience and proctored scanning with other clinical departments.
