Program Description

Type of Program

One year fellowship. A two-year fellowship is an option if an applicant is interested in pursuing an advanced degree.
Appointment is as a Clinical Instructor in the Yale School of Medicine. Clinical responsibilities and scanning are primarly performed at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a level I trauma center with over 100,000 visits per year and YNHH SRC Campus. Across the main campuses, we see 200,000 visits per year. We perform approximately 10,000 emergency ultrasounds per year. https://eus.yale.edu .

Number of Ultrasound Faculty

7 fellowship-trained faculty. We are a mature program and the majority of our faculty are privileged for bedside ultrasound. Non-ultrasound faculty including the residency program director and associate program director have also completed their RDMS / RDCS requirements, or fellowship.

Ultrasound Fellowship Education

Fellows are responsible for 18 clinical hours per week (2 shifts per week, 48 week year) of clinical time as an attending physician and are expected to utilize ultrasound clinically.
There are 8-10 hours/ week of structured non-clinical scanning shifts for training, education and research.
Video review of ultrasound cases is conducted 4 hours/ week.
Other resources include structured study materials and expectation of involvement in ultrasound research.

Do you bill for ultrasounds?

Yes.

Do you require follow up imaging for patients who get ultrasounds?

Not once privileging is obtained in certain applications. Can be established rapidly for incoming fellows based on experience prior to and during fellowship.

Other Information

Our equipment, training, and relationships with other services allows us to provide a particularly robust experience in cardiac and critical care ultrasound. Our faculty hold leadership positions in national organizations and discuss topics regarding the national landscape.
