Welcome
Welcome, and thank you for your time and interest in our Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship Program.
We began the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Program here at Christiana Care with several goals. Foremost I wanted to train highly talented, interested and motivated emergency physicians to become exceptional “Emergency Sonologist”; specialists in emergency medicine who have mastered the critical aspects of emergency ultrasound performance, interpretation, education, quality assurance, research and emergency ultrasound program administration. Secondly, I wanted to help bring this amazing and life saving technology to patients and institutions throughout the country by training future leaders in this rapidly developing area of specialization within emergency medicine. Finally, if I was going to do this, I wanted the training program to perform both within an institution and in an environment that was superb and second to none.
Though I returned to Christiana in July 2000 following my own EM US Fellowship, I waited until July 2002 to accept our first CCHS EM US Fellow. We used these proceeding two years between 2000 and 2002 to make absolutely certain that all key educational and administrative components were established and functional. This was by my choice, in order to make certain we provided our EM US Fellows with the highest quality education without compromise. It is with this functional idealism for “training excellence” that helps to make our fellowship an exceptional educational experience.
My approach to fellowship education is a very personal one. The ultrasound fellows and I spend a great deal of one on one time together. This time is filled with such aspects as performing bedside ultrasounds, reviewing ultrasound video tape, discussing ultrasound literature, doing US research, and training residents and faculty in emergency ultrasound. This approach allows for continuous interaction between the fellows and myself, therefore providing a nearly uninterrupted educational experience. I believe this environment is critical to producing a graduate who is truly honed in the art of emergency ultrasound. Please review our following information, speak to our graduates, and contact us with any questions.
So in conclusion, thank you for your interest, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Paul R. Sierzenski, MD, RDMS, FACEP, FAAEM
